John, the only way the kidney can extract excess phosphorous is in the form of calcium phosphate. Excess consumption of phosphorous thus result in depletion of calcium from the body. The mechanism is not direct, the body tries and keep phosphorous concentrations at an equilibrium, and when excess is present it is extracted with calcium which the body takes from its "stores", including bones.
