for the average immigrant, thats about a 15 year process : about 10 years to get a "Green Card", and the 5 from then to file for citizenship.

I can't speak to the transition to citizenship, but you must be dealing with the wrong people on the green card. A competent immigration attorney (I can recommend one, if you need it) will make that transition typically less than two years at most, more often 1.5. Were it not so, all the people here on H1Bs would be out of luck since their maximum stay is 6.

i started to ask you how you get in and stay in 10 years without a green card but i see that has been covered.

re nixon...he received a presidential pardon from president Ford...so he lost no rights. even those convicted who later receive pardons also get their full rights restored.

re the flag...yes half mast is appropriate on Memorial Day. and you may call it either half staff or half mast...both are correct.

Compare that to a country like New Zealand : If you have lived legally there for over a year, and been gainfully employed for that year (ie paid taxes), then you are eligible to vote.

yeah, but only if you marry a sheep...
