Meditation works very well as does exercise.

I agree those work to.

I read this story about someone who wanted to get out of active service and evade his soldier creed. His effort must have been a type of focusing exercise.

'When I joined up,' he went on, 'I first of all rented a room in the town and tried to contract rheumatism. Three times in succession I got myself thoroughly pickled, went and lay down in a ditch outside the town when it was raining, and took my boots off. But that didn't help. And then in the winter I bathed by night in the Malse for a whole week, but I achieved the opposite results. Old man, I got so tough that for a whole night I could lie in the snow in the courtyard where I lived, and when the people of the house woke me up in the morning my feet were as warm as if I had been wearing fur slippers."
