Otherwise, no opinion yet.

I have one, but it probably won't be very popular. If Lucent is so weak that it needs to merge with Alcatel, if the result of the merger is bad for Qualcomm, and if Ercisson has dropped the ball after buying the infrastructure division, then one heck of a lot of blame needs to go to Qualcomm for partnering with and selling critical assets to companies that don't properly advance the cause. When Qualcomm is selling critical assets to foreign companies (Ericsson and Kyocera), I find it really, really difficult to blame our policians for anything that might go wrong vis-a-vis a Lucent/Alcatel merger.

Their is a cross-modal standard out there for 1xRTT on a GSM/MAP network. to my knowledge nobody is commercializing it. What better combo than these two to do so?

That is something I had subliminaly considered.

Chaz, WRT Ericsson and CDMA, doesn't Ericsson have some IPR in WCDMA? And did not Ericsson take home some bacon from the Chinese deal? Are you confounding Ericsson not vocally pressing CDMA forward, with Ericsson using the infra division to usurp CDMA?

Now, does Alcatel have IPR in WCDMA? Do you get my point, and is it valid? I cannot recollect who has what in
WCDMA...little wonder, of course, but that info is necessary to vet this perspective, i.e. what is in it for ALA if they detain CDMA via the LU acquisition? What is in it for them if they and ERICY pull together to capture some of the open-for-grabs EU market? Can the Euros possibly justify withholding their markets on an if-come basis awaiting a technology that has already brought the crisis of debt to the table?
