try putting your mouse pointer on the screen area-pixel slide bar, and just move it a notch and bring it back. does that activate the 'apply' button?

mr.marks suggestion works on my display settings. If it doesn't work for you try setting your display to whatever you want it to be and then press the ENTER key on the Keyboard. If this doesn't work try pressing CTRL + A together.
