I assume you're thinking that Alcatel won't be so stupid as to simply throw away all opportunities to leverage Lucent's past successes with CDMA.

If you're thinking that the license shouldn't be transferred because Alcatel won't push CDMA in Europe, that doesn't make any sense to me. It would mean tossing a thriving relationship entirely out the door. Even if Qualcomm can't leverage the Lucent relationship to extend into Europe, the company would be no worse off than when Lucent was independent. Surely you wouldn't want management to throw out all the opportunities to do business with Alcatel/Lucent in other parts of the world because it won't push in Europe.
