LU - If you were negotiating a takeover wouldn't it be clever to leak that you're buying cheaper than you really are to keep the stock price dampened? I have seen this before in the form of denials of interest, but usualy it's silence and confidentiality. My buy today is based on the 8.80 price and the fact that longer term LU is worth much more than this. Even with all the bad news out LU has been trading between 9 and 21 for some time. This new "offer" constitutes a new bottom (subtracting the bankruptcy rumor effect). That is absurd. Something is amiss. Also if I were VZ or NOK I'd jump all over this and raise the offer. Never in their dreams would they imagine getting LU for $9 a share. And VZ could snare Bell Labs without federal restriction. Worse case, I don't see a downside here. If the stock sinks lower stockhodlers would rebel and kill this deal for sure. Who wants to take a loss on a takeover?
