Just started a JBX thread. Well it was already there but I put some stuff on it, mostly nonsense.

Anybody here with a current opinion on SJR?

So far - about a year after SJR was discussed here - I see the "score" as David Stern, et. al. one, and Warren Buffett (or his surrogate?) zero.

finance.yahoo.com

I'm trying to find value in cable stocks now: they all seem to be beat down. I've not yet been able to value the subscriber base or their growth or the services the cable companies provide. Or estimate the competitive threat of satellite. I'm not even sure these are the critical areas to value. But if the Buffett contingent were right in their purchase of 22(?) million shares last year and if they're still holding, then maybe SJR common is a value buy now, if the presumed business model Mr. Buffett/Mr. Simpson had is still intact. (I believe the Buffett investment here was the convertible; I'm following the common.)

In any case, I'd be interested in reading anyone's opinion here on the appropriateness or timing of a buy on SJR now, convertible or common.
