SB, I actually give some credit to Davis when he ran Lycos. USA networks was buying Lycos. He got a deal that was killed by CMGI and other shareholders.
I remember it was about $70 to $100 ...value placed on each Lycos share. (don't remember exact figure)

As I see it, he recognized the situation early (internet stock valuations) but had no support from the shareholder base.
If by change CMGI had allowed the deal to go through, CMGI stock would be a lot higher as it would have a "real asset" on its balance sheet now.
