You'll notice on the chart you posted that gold followed inflation very carefully except for the period 1993-1997. Clinton's minions at the OMB office cooked the books for him. Afterall--he had to do damage control for the '94 mid-term election and he had to be reelected himself in the fall of '96. Trust me--inflation was with gold in those years too.
