There was also a cover article in today's WSJ about Itanium. It had a paragraph that stated 'While Intel made sure the new chip would run older applications made for the x86 line, it is likely to do so more slowly than equivalent x86 chips'. I have a hard believing Intel would release a dog after all this time and effort. It's a new chip and architecture, and that level of complexity always takes lots of time. That said, there sure has been quite a bit of controversy concerning the Pentium 4 as compared to the PIII/Athlon on business app performance....
