"The Starship Enterprise has a lot of great features too, but try and get a ride on it. "

But the EV7 is a done deal, architects and circuit designers have moved on
to other CPUs. Not "if" but "when". Just like the Itanic. We knew Itanium would
eventually come crawling out of the slime and it got its much deserved low-key intro.
It is a dead/pilot CPU and most/all Wintel articles basically highlight that fact. Here is a
good article from a very reputable magazine, Electronic Engineering Times that
says a lot in its headline:

Are OEMs "waiting for McKinley?"
[Why of course!]

With Merced in hand, OEMs await
follow-on

"Merced is shaping up as a kind of development platform, as OEMs
await the more capable McKinley — due next year — to design their
systems around. "The first version of IA-64 will be targeted at several
key areas, pilot programs and early developers," Hudson said. "When
we get to the McKinley time frame, that will be a major boost.
McKinley will round out the product line."

etc.
