Emulex Announces Support for New Intel Itanium Processor-Based Platform
Emulex LightPulse® Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters Supported on Itanium(TM) Processor-based Systems for Microsoft's 64-bit Windows

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 2001-- Emulex Corp. (Nasdaq:EMLX - news), the world's largest supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), today announced that its LightPulse family of Fibre Channel host bus adapters fully support Intel® Itanium(TM) processor-based platforms.

Intel's Itanium-based systems are designed to provide exceptional performance for enterprise-class, data center computing environments. Emulex HBAs, combined with Intel's new Itanium-based systems, provide highly flexible and scalable solutions for enterprise customers.

The entire family of Emulex LightPulse HBAs are Intel Itanium processor-ready, including its newly announced 2Gb/s dual channel PCI-X LP9402DC HBAs, 2Gb/s LP9002L low profile HBAs, and its market-leading LP8000 HBAs. Emulex HBAs and drivers have undergone Emulex's thorough testing to ensure a high quality interface for Itanium-based systems running on Microsoft's Windows® Advanced Server Limited Edition.

``Emulex has been actively involved in Intel's Itanium-based device driver development program for their Fibre Channel HBA's and related drivers to be enabled for Itanium-based systems,'' said Jim Yent, intel technical marketing manager for Itanium IHV Enabling. ``We are pleased Emulex has completed their validation cycle with their HBA drivers to coincide with the rollout of Intel's Itanium-based systems.''

Emulex has also worked closely with Microsoft Corp. to provide drivers in support of Microsoft's new Windows Advanced Server Limited Edition operating system, which is utilized by the Intel Itanium 64-bit platform.

``Emulex and Microsoft continue to work closely to ensure the seamless deployment of enterprise storage networking solutions,'' said Peter Conway, senior director, Microsoft. ``The Emulex Fibre Channel host bus adapters are an integral component of SAN infrastructures and its drivers contribute to our new Windows Advanced Server Limited Edition providing the high availability and robustness that data center customers demand.''

``As a member of Intel's FastTrack IA-64 Itanium driver development program, Emulex is fully prepared to accelerate adoption of this new platform. Our newly validated drivers enable customers to simply and easily migrate their existing installed base of Emulex hardware to high performance Itanium-based systems,'' said Kirk Roller, chief operating officer at Emulex. ``The Intel Itanium processor presents a tremendous opportunity for the entire industry, and provides Emulex with an excellent opportunity to expand its presence in the data center marketplace.''

The Emulex Family of Host Bus Adapters

The Emulex HBAs offer high performance, standards-based connectivity solutions for both Fibre Channel and IP storage networking environments. Emulex host bus adapters support 64-bit operating systems and provide a unique combination of features required for mission-critical enterprise environments that deliver reliability, high bandwidth, server CPU offload, low latency and scalable connectivity.

The Emulex LightPulse family of HBAs offers full fabric support, high data integrity, full-duplex operation, data buffering for up to 100km of cabling, and support for all Fibre Channel topologies. The Emulex Fibre Channel products include the 2 Gb/s LP9002L host bus adapters, LP8000 host adapter and LP850 host bus adapters, the high-performance PCI-based LP7000E and the industry's first digital re-timing hub, the LH5000 series.

The Emulex family of IP networking HBAs provides unsurpassed high performance data access over industry-standard IP networks. The GN9000/VI VI/IP HBA, announced in July 2000, enables network attached storage (NAS) appliances and hosts to exchange file system data over IP networks, while gaining the high throughput, low latency and reduced CPU overhead benefits of the virtual interface (VI) architecture.

Emulex's recent announcement of its GN9000/SI iSCSI HBAs further extends the Emulex product offering to include block level data access over IP networks, including data residing on Fibre Channel SANs. The Emulex family of IP networking products also includes the cLAN1000 host bus adapter and the cLAN 5000/5300 cluster switches, which are the preferred connectivity solution for VI-based system area networks.
