Would you like to know how much money is wasted on advertising and marketing in the "efficient" private sector?

None, either it works or it doesn't. Can anything be done without some inefficiency? The market allows for degrees of inefficiency. Marketing makes Pokemon possible, but there is little advertising for celery.

Hopefully we will see more and more of this, where
government identifies a problem, and allows the private sector to solve it efficiently.

So, is the private sector "efficient" or not? And I would like to know how much money is wasted in the private sector on advertising......to the penny if you can find the figures.

That is probably true... but it is necessary. Are you proposing that we get rid of taxes completely? How will you pay for police officers, traffic lights, etc?

No but the sad part is that we use so much wasted energy in the process. Look at our needs to bring in people from other countries to perform technical functions. Just about every accountant, IRS agent etc are intelligent and skilled people with decent math capabilities. In a country that is seeing the skill level of its workers shrink we cannot afford to waste the intellect of the productive on unproductive tasks. In that regards some sort of flat tax and sales tax scheme has more merit in shrinking that energy demand.
It is a myth that Gore shrunk government. The debt is larger and government grew. It keeps on growing. I don't expect that the Republicans will shrink it either. They too will look to buy votes by placating various groups to gain their vote. The fact is I believe it is to late for this country. We are no longer a nation of one people united by a common culture with some small sub-cultures. We are now an empire with conflicting cultures and ideas that are no longer even bound by a common language. Your children will never see the standard of living that we once had. By the way I define standard of living to mean time to smell the roses and to walk peacefully in your neighborhood. Those days are gone. Look at what a family who wishes to escape the inner city has to do. Both people must work and generally it is a 60 hr work week when you include commute. Thirty years ago the government and this country existed with the government taking 4 to 8 % of a family. Now it is 50 %.
Capitalism to me means freedom. That is the definition of Capitalism. It is based on freedom. I believe that the American culture means freedom. It was a unique moment in history that it came to pass but it now seems that the people of this country no longer cherish it. The only freedom they believe in is sexual freedom.
