Darrell - the MIGR stuff - which seems about the best migration toolset, although there are others - does 2 things. First, it allows a "plain vanilla" port with pretty minimal effort (in comparison to a manual port), which means that folks who otherwise might just wait for McKinley can get a merced version out and test the waters with lower investment. Second, it sets up a methodology which should make a McKinley optimization easier as well, when those chips hit the market. Still, Intel has not gotten the traction they had hoped for at this point, which means the ramp will still lag even the McKinley launch. It will happen, but it will be a while...
