...why would employers fire black teenagers when the minimum wage goes up? Racism or lower literacy/education/skill level?

That is not the marginal response as firing existing workers wastes investments in training, etc. Hiring one less worker than planned or delaying hiring for a month, or reducing benefits are more marginal responses.
