You don't have to apologize, even if I was a smoker. If I was a smoker I would have nothing to be ashamed of or to apologize for as it's legal and I'm an adult with freewill. Now I used to sneak smokes when I was a kid and my parents didn't want me to do it, so I can't say I've never had a cigarette. But I've never been a "smoker" who has smoked any significant amount on a regular basis and I haven't had one for a long time.
