Yep - Good point. It would be interesting to combine the two sets of data. Most people don't realize that they (and their employer) likely pay more in payroll taxes than the individual does in federal income taxes (lowest four quintiles in the data you linked). Being self-employed and writing quarterly checks... it is very apparent. From the progressive tax perspective, at least they have been raising the income level subjected to FICA by much more than the rare of inflation for the last several years (typically 5-6%) as it is based on some other index.
