Well, I am addressing it from a common sense perspective, and adding the qualification "narrowly construed". I mean something like this: someone who is inappropriately prying (I am not, be it noted, talking about depositions in a court of law), and cannot be deflected by silence or evasiveness, because one is boxed in, may be put off by a lie. One should not lie merely to get out of trouble.....

If someone were torturing me to find the where abouts of my children so that they could hurt or kill them I would lie.

A few months ago you and I were having a discussion on a related subject and you said you couldn't possibly imagine being faced with moral ambiguity. I was so exasperated that I just quit posting to you until just the last few days. I am so very glad to see you bringing up a scenario with moral ambiguity. Lying is wrong. Endangering your children is wrong. Whatcha gonna do? Well of course you lie. You are forced to choose between two wrongs and you make that choice without regret. Every time.
