30 years ago we used a gas water heater mounted in the shower area. Once one figured out how to light it with damp matches before the gas built up past the danger point it worked fine. Also cut down on long showers, as the thought that the whole thing was going to blow never left ones mind. True this was over 30 years ago in Rio de Janeiro. The concept works and really was efficient even then.
