Roadway Sees Continued Weakness in Second Quarter
AKRON, Ohio, May 31, 2001 (AutomotiveWire) -- Roadway Corporation (Nasdaq: ROAD chart, msgs) today stated that the motor carrier's tonnage levels are currently 13 to 14% below those of a year ago. This decline is attributed to the continued weakness in the national economy, which has reduced business levels, especially in the less-than-truckload (LTL) portion of the Company's operation. This decline will negatively impact results, and Roadway Corporation's operating ratio is expected to deteriorate by approximately one and one-half percent (1.5%) of revenue. Earnings are expected to be 60% to 70% below those of the second quarter of 2000 when the company earned $0.52 per share.
