Herb,

The mid-quarter update has been scheduled since the April 17 1Q earnings release. I expect that this will become a regular event for Intel, for better or for worse. From the 1Q earnings release:

Intel intends to publish a Business Update press release on June 7, 2001, and hold a related analysts' conference call (available for listening by webcast). From June 2, 2001 until publication of the Business Update, Intel will observe a "Quiet Period". During the Quiet Period, the Outlook as provided in this press release and the company's filings with the SEC on Forms 10-K and 10-Q should be considered to be historical, speaking as of prior to the Quiet Period only and not subject to update by the company. During the Quiet Period, Intel representatives will not comment concerning the Outlook or Intel's financial results or expectations.

John

Herb - Re: "no Frys in Florida but in Circuit City, Best Buy, Staples, etc I have been surprised how few Athlons are carried and no Durons, mostly Plll’s and P 4’s."

The AMDroid thread has reported similar results - especially week-end "advertisements".

Re: ". Intel has scheduled an earnings update next week. Don’t remember them scheduling in advance before so I assume something must be unsual and probably not too good. Hopefully they will have something positive to say about the P 4. "

Intel set this up at their last earnings announcement - and it seems to be the "standard new thing" for analysts - with Intel now giving scheduled, mid-quarter updates.

Sun just did this (yes - they did have BAD NEWS !), and I think Altera and Xilinx have been doing this for several quarters.
