Welcome Wireless In Many Ways

Wireless technology is almost as common as athletes who shop in The Sports Authority retail stores. From inventory receiving and returns processing, to line busting point of sale (POS) devices and electronic shelf labels, radio frequency (RF) signals are transmitted throughout the sales process

Lynch also looks forward to implementing electronic shelf tags throughout the stores, which would automatically reflect price changes below the items. "It is one way we are able to take people out of non-selling functions and put them into selling functions on the store floor," Lynch said. "We don't have to have people replacing shelf tags or stickers all the time because it will be done automatically." Via the RF receivers located throughout the stores, electronic shelf labels would display the sale price matching those particular bar codes already adjusted in the system. This provides a definite cost and time savings for the retailer. "If we want to have a sale on fishing lures, the benefit of the sale is dramatically decreased if we have to spend our time on manually changing the price tags 10 cents on 1,000 items," Lynch said. With the increased speed and functionality related to wireless technology, Lynch said his company wants to continue to incorporate as much of it as possible into its business environment
