hi tc

re, "try diagnostic startup from the general tab in System Configuration Utility"

it does not exist in win95.

"If you don't get tired of messing with the ZA-Norton problem"

i finally am. <g3> it's a beautiful day.... my wife finally got home from her long trip.... i have a viable workaround in place.... i'm still waiting for the zonelabs boys and girls to reply.... and it's a safe bet that the thread has od'd on this compatibility issue.

i'll let it be. for now. <g3>

okay, so i lied. <g3> i wasn't as tired of messing with the za-npf compatibility issue as i thought i was! at least not until i had tried one more thing....

remember when i commented, "hmmmm, maybe i should switch your earlier idea around and try putting a shortcut to za in my startup folder and letting it load from there instead of the normal loading process? as you speculated then, this may alter the loading sequence and solve the problem"?

well, the good news is...... IT WORKED!!

both firewalls are loading automatically now, with a za shortcut placed in the startup folder. that was enough to reorder the sequence of how the two programs load, and in whatever mysterious way microsoft works, the compatibility issue has resolved itself by doing this!

your suggestion was directly responsible for the repair, and i thank you.
