Minneapolis, June 4 (Bloomberg) -- Financier Irwin Jacobs says he increased his stake in AremisSoft Corp., a software maker whose contract to overhaul Bulgaria's health-information network was questioned in a New York Times report last month. Jacobs, the president and chief executive of Minneapolis- based Jacobs Industries, said the purchase of 541,000 shares of AremisSoft, raised his stake to 9.15 percent from 7.8 percent. Jacobs said he bought AremisSoft stock at about $12 a share, less than half their January 17 peak of $27.63. They rose 25 cents to $12.79 in afternoon trading. They were trading at $13.28 when the Times published its report. ``The price of the stock is incredibly attractive,'' said Jacobs. ``If I thought it was attractive at around $18 a share, I really thought it was attractive at around $12.'' Since buying his stake last month, Jacobs has been battling critics of AremisSoft who say the company made material misstatements about the value of the contract in Bulgaria. The company previously said the contract was worth $37.4 million. It now says it has completed the first two phases of the job and will have to compete in a bidding process for the rest of the project. The Times reported the value of the agreement was less than $4 million when various phases of the contract and bidding process were considered, citing Securities and Exchange Commission documents and comments from Bulgarian and World Bank officials. --Dan Lonkevich in the New York newsroom at (212) 893-5811, or dlonkevich@bloomberg.net/jk/jdh
