ExxonMobil is integrating its unique Speedpass payment system into participating retailers' point-of-sale systems, allowing customers to pay for purchases by simply waving a miniature plastic transponder in front of an electronic reader. Speedpass is already off to a good start with McDonald's Corporation in the Chicago metropolitan area, which recently tested the proprietary system at nine McDonald's restaurants. The success of the test prompted Chicago Region owner/operators to expand Speedpass use to more than 400 additional McDonald's restaurants by this fall. ``Customer feedback on Speedpass has been very positive, and we're excited to be able to offer Speedpass at additional McDonald's restaurants,'' said Carter Drew, senior vice president of McDonald's Great Lakes Division. ``At McDonald's we pride ourselves on convenient, quick and friendly service, and our customers appreciate the ease and simplicity of using Speedpass to make their purchases.'' ``The expansion beyond service stations gives our nearly five million customers more avenues in which to use their Speedpass,'' stated Mike Goldberg, president of Speedpass Network, a venture of ExxonMobil. ``This is a natural evolution of an innovative system. Speedpass is also being installed at nearly 2,800 Exxon-branded service stations and convenience stores this year. Combined with the 4,200 Mobil stations that currently feature Speedpass, the opportunity for consumers to use the system will increase greatly. In addition, Speedpass plans to expand into other retail categories, including groceries, video rentals and vending. The goal of Speedpass Network is to position Speedpass as the customer identification and payment system of the future. For the customer, Speedpass is a system that simplifies people's lives.
