Sorry, I thought it was part and parcel of a position you had taken up in support of a bias toward a Judeo/Christian God. I don't know where I picked this intuitive sense of your positioning up, but I am glad to be corrected.

I, too, am only looking for what biblical and non biblical writings combine to suggest as factual history to a reasonable perspective. I think it is unfair and foolish to favor the truth claims of a a particular religion over another unless there are factual reasons for doing so. I believe that many religious writings are superior in this regard because they do not eliminate their own truth claims through countless internal contradictions. I am trying to remember if the epic of Gilgamesh had any internal contradictions when it spoke of gods and men. I don't believe it did. I mean the flood story of Noah was a rather large concept, but it it not self contradictory in the Gilgamesh tale. Unfortunately for the bible, it has been touched by too too many hands, and touched in very mischievous ways. The more details people make up to FORCE prophecy, etc. the more, well--we know what a tangled web does. Those contradictions just keep multiplying.

So from a purely impartial perspective, I believe that many religions put forth a better case than the main western ones. However, many of these religions don't get around much anymore.

I am not impressed with any tribal writings or mythic literature as Divine truth claims; They simply do not meet even minimal requirements of logical consistency. I am, however, impressed with some of it as literature. There are some wonderful tales, for instance, told in the the various religions of the myriad Native American Indian cultures. Many of them are delightful, both for their respect for all living Beings, and for their unique symbolism and imagery.
