Was wondering when you'd comment about our occasional private conversations about THDO. It's probably the company I know best, both from fundamental and trading perspectives. I've gotten halfway decent at recognizing old patterns as they unfold again in that one, but far from perfect. Very far from perfect: I sold a bunch of $3 shares at $10 some time back then shorted it at $12, only to have the rather terrifying adventure of having it climb slowly to $17 and stay there for a while. And covered at a small loss on the way back down. Sure wish I had kept that short position for a year. :) I'm not a big fan of Trip Hawkins, actually. A fan, but not a huge one. I do appreciate his huge purchases of his own company's stock, but his all-eggs-in-one-basket approach worries me. He apparently strongly believes he shouldn't develop for Xbox. I don't agree with him, but concede that he knows his business far better than I do, and the future may prove him very wise in that decision. MSFT may eventually abandon it if it can't upset Sony's (eventual) stranglehold on the market and they won't give two whits what impact that has on developers, but if that day comes, it'll be a very long time coming. I'll humbly accept the "classy" handle, but not the "market savvy" one. I know a few stocks very well, but I don't know technical analysis beyond what my gut tells me when I look at a chart of price and volume (I do at least draw imaginary lines through highs and lows). Yes, I was laid off (along with about 250 other InfoSpace employees) on February 6th of this year. I think there were two WSJ articles and a DowJones article (picked up by some newspapers, but not my hometown KC Star) about my being "let go" and my subsequent acceptance of a similar position with InvestorsHub, which I resigned a couple of weeks ago over irreconcilable philosophical differences. So now I'm back to doing what I was doing at the start of this wild and interesting ride: Talking stocks. And I really love being able to now. BTW, I got a Playstation 2 about a month ago. Was in Walmart looking at the DVD selection (still waiting for the rest of the South Park episodes to come out on DVD) and noticed they had one left. I grabbed it and a few games, including Army Men: Air Attack 2 (the others are Tekken and some racing game). The racing game (can't remember the name of it right now) has pretty decent graphics, but the handling of the cars is nowhere near the perfection achieved in Viper Racing (PC). Tekken is a game I can't figure out (my daughter wanted it) as it just seems to me like random button-pushing, but she loves it and she's in the demographic that largely makes or breaks game-makers. She hates Army Men. I love it though. I thought the graphics were "okay" at first but largely disappointing in light of how stunning this hardware was supposed to be. Then we played Tekken. Army Men's graphics were suddenly reduced to "Yuck!" Tekken apparently makes good use of the hardware. I suspected that Army Men was a hurried port from an inferior platform (I don't know -- I don't typically do games and those I do have strictly been for the PC) where Tekken looked like it'd been written largely from the ground up to take advantage of the machine. The quality is incredible! But I do love playing Army Men. What it lacks in visual appeal it makes up for in cuteness, fun, and challenge. I think other old guys like me will love the game but I doubt we really amount to much of anything in that market. One thing I despise about it, though. At each level, you start with the basic weaponry. What you pick up in earlier levels doesn't go with you to the next level (ala Doom). Anyway, a long-winded (typical) way to say I like THDO and yup, I'm SI Bob. That's why I had my first name put in parentheses. A running joke in my family and circle of friends is that because I identified personally so closely to my (former) role here, I should get my name legally changed to include the parentheses my alias had when I had this job. Regards, The SIer formerly known as SI Admin (Bob)
