And what cool products these actually are! For instance, today, MSI announced its MS-6367 mainboard based on NVIDIA nForce (Crush) chipset. It is exactly the board that has aroused a lot of concerns about the chipset’s future. Actually, MSI has revealed the true name of the NVIDIA chipset, which is expected to be announced only on June 4 (Monday). If we take the mainboard specs for granted (and we really want to take them for granted), then nForce chipsets architecture will be exactly SMA and no exclusive DIMM modules will be required for the graphics memory. Here are the mainboard specs: MicroATX form-factor; Socket A; IGP nForce 420 North Bridge; 200MHz/266MHz system bus; 3 DDR DIMM slots for up to 1.5GB (when using 2 DDR, with 128-bit TwinBank Architecture; the bandwidth accommodates 4.2GB/s, which is twice faster than regular DDR platform. And when using 1 or 3 DDR modules, the memory bus makes 64bit); 3 PCI slots, 1 AGP 4x slot, 1 CNR slot; Integrated GeForce2 core; ATA/100, integrated AC’97 sound (MCP South Bridge without Dolby Digital support); To connect the IGP and MCP there is a high-speed bus with 800MB/sec bandwidth (HyperTransport protocols) ; Live BIOS and PC Alert III technologies. Well, as you can see, in case of 2 DDR SDRAM DIMM modules, nForce chipsets offer a unique feature for DDR chipsets: dual-channel memory access with the overall width equal to 128bit. In fact, it should have a positive effect not only on the performance of the integrated graphics core but also on the overall system performance. However, we wouldn’t draw any conclusions before at least some tests are carried out. ;-) xbitlabs.com Picture of MB here theregister.co.uk M
