CSR passes the 1 million mark

Cambridge Silicon Radio sold its millionth Bluetooth chip in May – proof, according to Glenn Collinson, CSR’s co-founder and marketing director, that CSR is ahead of the game and that the Bluetooth explosion is not far away. “We’re finally managing to dispel some of the rumours about Bluetooth being a technology that’s continually running late,” says Collinson. “At this year’s congress you can see that there are real products you can buy today.” The CSR stand, where a Sony Vaio is linked via Bluetooth to IBM, Compaq, Sony and Fujitsu laptops, serves to reinforce the image of an interoperable technology that has finally got itself up and running. CSR, which has attracted mainly Japanese business so far, supplies all these manufacturers with its BlueCore single-chip solution. It is expected that the price of a BlueCore chip will be down to $5 by next year. Recent partnerships involving CSR include the incorporation of Bluetooth functionality into Compaq’s Evo Notebooks, as well as the supplying of BlueCore chips to Hong Kong-based developers Innovi for use in cordless headsets.
