CDPD has 128bit encryption and costs $30 a month

That only secures the data from the device to the wireless network. When the data leaves the wireless net and hits the Internet, it's all in the clear. Unless you you are running addditional security on top of it (like Blackberry's Triple DES encryption or a standard VPN solution), it is a totally unacceptable means of accessing a corporate network. Any network administrator who allows it should be canned.

Security Functions Not Supported

The security services across the CDPD airlink do not support any other security functions, including the following:

¥ Bilateral Authentication

The security services do not validate the CDPD network to the M-ES across the airlink. The security services do not support bilateral authentication of the NEIs of the source and destination network entities.

¥ End-to-end Data Confidentiality

The security services do not provide end-to-end data confidentiality. They only provide data confidentiality over the airlink.

¥ Data Integrity

The security services do not provide protection against modification of encrypted data transmitted across the airlink.

¥ Non-repudiation

The security services do not provide protection against repudiation of commitments entered into by a user of the security services.

¥ Traffic Flow Confidentiality

The security services do not provide protection against monitoring of the volume of data exchanged by users of the security services.

Users of the airlink security services who require any of these other security services must provide them by other means.

I believe calypso tore a new bootie for ya, so perhaps no further need for me to respond...CDPD has lousy coverage and no end to end encryption (no end to end, no corporate accounts)...go to CSFB, Merrill, JPMorgan/Chase, Salomon Smith Barney and say "hey guys, can we talk about replacing your Blackberrys with a CDPD device"...they will probably agree that the moniker of "nose picker" is indeed apt...funny thing is, the RIMM device is actually just gaining traction and there is a huge untapped market out there for the device.
