Arafat has lost control of his own people. He knows that the Israelis are preparing to invade the West Bank to take out the terrorist infrastructure his own PA doesn't dare to eliminate (out of fear of retribution). So now he's going to the Europeans to cry for their "protection" because he can't stop the violence (or won't). Nobody can say that Arafat, and the world, wasn't warned of what was coming down the pike. Let's see who steps forward to pledge their public support for him and his terrorists... Arafat Warns of Israeli Attack The Associated Press Thursday, May 31, 2001; 11:26 p.m. EDT BRUSSELS, Belgium –– Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat claimed Thursday that senior Israeli officials were preparing a "new war" to paralyze his Palestinian Authority. "I have received a letter saying the (Ariel) Sharon government has adopted the principle of a new war against the Palestinian people," he said in a speech to the upper house of the Belgian Parliament. "The goal of the Israeli army in calling a truce is in fact to mobilize the Israeli mass to prepare an atrocious war ... in which they will use all military means to paralyze the Palestinian Authority," Arafat added. Arafat was responding to comments from Israeli Infrastructure Minister Avigdor Lieberman, a hard-liner in the cabinet of Prime Minister Arial Sharon's government, who said Israel should immediately reoccupy Palestinian-controlled areas in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. "In the next 48 hours we need to go into all Palestinian areas and destroy the entire infrastructure of the Palestinian Authority, destroy the weapons cache of their forces including those of the militias," Lieberman told Israeli radio. Arafat addressed the Belgian Senate on the latest stop on a European tour that had earlier taken him to Russia and Denmark. Don't you realize that NOBODY in the world can agree with your "Arafat being a direct military threat to Israel" yarn??? That's Israel's BIG PR snag at the moment: public opinion the world over is witnessing a garrison-state fully equipped with up-to-date military gear (F-16s, "Robocop" troops, surveillance UAVs, gunboats off Gaza's shore, howitzers, etc) struggling with a crowd of Palestinian youths and their debilitated leader who's barely in better shape than Pope John Paul II.... For the Israelis to cast Arafat as a dreadful bogeyman is not just a joke, it's a disgusting disgrace.... It's as if the FBI branded an old Native American as the US's #1 Public Enemy! How many Americans would buy such crap?
