>You haven't paid much attention in the past. Folks waited for even lousy new OS's to upgrade. XP has gotten pretty good reviews, the perception is that it is a much better, more stable OS. At retail, what the consumer thinks doesn't matter. Weeks before XP is released, the shelves will be almost bare of PC's, the back up stock thin. Retailer are going to have very lean inventory, on the realistic fear that they won't be able to sell PC's with W-ME, if there is a PC sitting next to it with XP. And if retailers are not buying PC's, box makers are not buying microprocessors.<

I do know people who shopped for computers with Windows 98 installed because of the Windows ME horror stories. Of course, this was after the introduction of Windows ME not before. All things considered, some purchasers might prefer to get Windows 98 installed, but if the alternative in ME, Windows XP would probably win hands down.

>Yea, all my friends and neighbors are talking about how they are looking forward to Palomino and Tualatin. LOL.<

Truth, even the sales people at the screwdriver shops didn't know what TBird was. I don't expect it to be much different with Palomino and Tualatin. What will change is that these introductions will be accompanied by the first move above 1.0 GHz at affordable prices for Intel and a major speed grade advance for AMD. Of course, the simultaneous emergence of the Crush11 chipset will probably be more significant for AMD.
