From Boortz today: boortz.com FATHER’S DAY? You’ll find it on page A24 of today’s Atlanta Constitution. It’s the last page. It’s a Father’s Day ad .. a full page ad from Rich’s Department Store. ( www.richsonline.com ) There, at the bottom of the page, right under the words “father’s day” we have two men holding a young boy. The message? I think it’s unmistakable. Rich’s Department Stores ( a division of Federated ) have decided that on this particular Father’s Day they’re going to celebrate gay fatherhood. So much for the traditional American family --- you know, one with an actual mother, father and children. Rich’s wants to highlight the non-traditional, the “new,” the “Jimmy has two daddies” family.
Well, maybe those of you with two fathers should shop at Rich’s! If you have a father and a mother ….. well, maybe there are some stores who want to cater to you too!
Oh ... some of the folks here at the show say these two are twins. Don't think so.
DON’T FORGET THE THREE TRILLION DOLLARS!
Just a friendly reminder. The Congressional Budget Office reports that by the year 2011 --- which is the year many of the tax breaks in the new so-called tax cut bill cease to exist --- the congress of the United States will have amassed THREE TRILLION DOLLARS in “uncommitted funds.” That amounts to $30,000 for each American household. About $6,700 for every American wage-earner. Your money, not theirs --- but they are going to be controlling where it goes and how it gets spent. You can bet your last ruble that it will be used to enhance the power of government.
AND SOME MORE PHRASES TO REMEMBER I got a lot of response from that Slate.com article I read on the air yesterday. The article, written by a self-confessed big government liberal, detailed just why liberals should not be upset by Bush’s tax cut and his 4% restriction on the growth of government spending.
Here are some loose quotes from the article ….
“Democrats seem to have lost faith in their governing appeal. Whatever happened to Tax and tax, spend and spend, elect and elect? While no politician likes to cast a vote to raise taxes, it can be done. Taxes were raised in 1983 under Reagan, in 1990 under Bush I, and in 1993 under Clinton.”
“…the delay (in implementing the bulk of the Bush tax cuts) gives the Democrats time to prevent the cuts from ever happening. “
“Even those Bush tax cuts that do go into effect will increase the ability and willingness of taxpayers to be taxed later. In essence, Bush’s budget takes the money Democrats will need and stores it with the taxpayers – for collection at a later date, when Bush is out of office. Yes, yes, it stores the money mainly with rich taxpayers. But that’s OK. We know where they live.”
“Every dollar he (Bush) saves today is a dollar we can spend tomorrow.”
Are you listening?
GOVERNOR NEWT? Rumors abound … Ralph Reed, the new Executive Director of the Georgia Republican Party …. Is he getting ready for a big campaign to put Newt Gingrich up against Roy Barnes in the next election?
NO CHARGES AGAINST LINDSAY BROWN Remember that kitchen knife under the passenger seat in Lindsay Brown’s car? Yeah, that knife. The knife which the acting superintendent of the Lee County, Florida schools presented a “clear and present danger” to every child in the school. Well, prosecutors have decided that the knife presented no such thing and that Lindsay Brown’s actions were not criminal. There was no intent to use that knife in the commission of a crime and, in fact, Lindsay didn’t even know the knife was there! In the meantime, Lindsay missed here graduation and other school activities. At least this will mean that her academic scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast University isn’t threatened.
Will you Lee County, Florida voters please do something about these fools you have running your local schools?
TRIUMPH OF THE HOME-SCHOOLERS!
Once again, a home-schooler--not some government-school drone--is the winner of the National Spelling Bee. 13-year-old Sean Conley of Shakopee, Minnesota, spelled "succedaneum" correctly. He takes home a gigantic trophy and $10,000.
Conley, by the way, was last year's runner-up.
His parents say he's been a spelling prodigy since he was 2. Test scores showed he was far more advanced in language and math than other kids his age--so they didn't allow him to languish in a government school. They home-schooled him until last year, when he entered a private school.
It's a growing trend. Home-schoolers rule the roost at national academic competitions, including the National Spelling Bee and the National Geography Bee. In last year's Spelling Bee, the first-, second-, and third-place winners were all home-schooled. On standardized tests and college entrance exams, home-schoolers routinely beat the pants off their government-school peers.
Contrast this good news with the latest round of bad news from the Department of Education. An annual report released yesterday shows that American government school students have shown little improvement over the past decade. Education Secretary Rod Paige said, "We are far from where we need to be in terms of student performance."
I hope more and more of you parents out there are starting to realize how pathetic government education has become...and that your kid's future does not begin in a government school.

TEXAS "HATE CRIME" LAWS TRIGGERED BY A HOAX
This is what happens when you let emotions override rational thought.
Last month, when Texas' "hate crimes" legislation was being considered, it passed the Democrat-controlled state House easily...but it stalled in the Republican-controlled state Senate. The bill's supporters couldn't even bring it to a vote.
But then something happened. A black church in Dallas was vandalized on May 2. Someone painted Nazi swastikas and other graffiti on the St. Luke Community United Methodist Church, which is home to several of the state's prominent black political leaders. It was assumed the vandalism was the work of white supremacists who were upset by the pending "hate crimes" legislation. The pastor of the church called it a “hate crime” and immediately urged passage of the Texas hate crime law.
The very next day, several speakers took the floor of the state legislature. They made passionate speeches. They pointed to the vandalism at St. Luke. They said it was a flagrant "hate crime"--and that the "hate crime" legislation was needed to curb such acts.
Eight days later, the state Senate passed the bill. Governor Rick Perry signed it into law on May 11.
New details, however, are emerging. A white couple, driving home from work the night of the vandalism, told police they saw a young black man painting the church with white paint. Police sources say they're investigating members of the church choir, which practiced late into the night on May 2. The white paint could have been taken from supplies that were left over after an office renovation project at the church.
Dallas police maintain that they have no evidence that the vandalism was racially motivated. The pastor of the church is hedging his bets … but still screaming “hate crime!”
So much for the great "hate crime" that served as the catalyst for passage of the Texas "hate crimes" law.
Don't let your emotions get the better of you. Don't fall for the hysteria whipped up by civil-rights warlords and their Democrat friends. Think and act rationally.

MORE TALES OF SELF-DEFENSE
Yesterday I brought you the story of a Tennessee woman who was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend. She freed herself and shot the bastard at a Dalton, Georgia, truck stop. Authorities have determined that the shooting was justified, so no charges will be filed against her.
Here are two more stories that will get the anti-gunners' panties in a wad:
In Petaluma, California, a knife-wielding assailant was shot after breaking into the house where his ex-girlfriend was living. 31-year-old Eric Daviesson leveled a shotgun on 32-year-old John Varney immediately after Varney entered the house through an unlocked door. Varney brandished a steak knife and got a chestful of shotgun pellets in response. Daviesson and his wife had been sheltering Varney's ex-girlfriend, who had complained about domestic violence. Varney had threatened to kill the Daviessons. He's now unconscious and on life support. Here's hoping he doesn't live to make it to trial.
This is the kind of self-defense story I like best! It happened in Foley, Alabama. Since March, Lori Lewis had filed three harassment complaints against William Franklin Lewis. She'd even obtained a protective court order. William Lewis was charged with stalking in April and was out of jail on a $5,000 bond. On Monday, William Lewis took a gun to Lori Lewis' home. He attacked her and dragged her inside the house. She was able to get away from him long enough to reach the bedroom, where she found her handgun. William Lewis fired on her, but he missed. Lori Lewis' single shot was better. William Lewis is now taking the eternal celestial dirtnap.
How many people would John Varney have stabbed before someone stopped him? Would Lori Lewis have survived her encounter with her ex-husband if she hadn't been armed? We'll never know...because in each of these cases, a law-abiding citizen with a legally-owned firearm successfully stopped the attack.
These are the kinds of stories that the gun-grabbing crowd doesn't want you to hear about. They'd rather you didn't have a gun in the home for self-defense. Just whose side are they on--yours, or the predator's? |
