Is it likely that they are this out and out evil?>> In any political system, such actions would be atrocious, essentially negating the need for politics. Extreme action is however a fundamental expression of religious aberrants, witness the murder of doctors who perform abortions and the lack of remorse demonstrated by their killers. Suicidal killer comes across the same in most languages. Suicide bombers are not like loud voters, they are more like screaming Savanarolas, draped in silent sanctimonious hate. They spread hate and fear and claim religious blessing, referring to their acts of hatred as jihad. The egg argument works if you are talking politics but completely washes out in a discussion of religion. ie. if you eat the egg you are evil and need to be expunged. The only valid test of men of hate is the table of peace under a rod of iron, iron that is red with blood. The most disturbing thing is that some group will actually claim responsibility for such attacks. And you may not have met enough people from the Middle East. I have met people from Lebanon who have lots of nice names for Mr. Arafat.
