i think we can assume that their GDP stats would improve enormously. just look at what hedonic indexing has done to US GDP stats. real (dollar) investment growth in tech hardware has been blown up from $8 billion to $148 billion in '98 for instance (i just quote the '98 number because it's the one i know off the cuff...anyway, it's only to illustrate the effect).
so if smoke and mirrors GDP accounting is introduced in Japan too, we could miraculously 'fix' their economic quagmire overnight. that way they could avoid reform entirely...i'm sure Japan's politicians would be very happy with that 'solution'.
