Not only is ANST not a good short it may well prove to be one of the best performing stocks over the next year.

They are an unknown company with a market cap of $200mm. The core EDA business will earn $.55 cents this year (just started), revenues will be $55mm, EPS growth of 50% and they have $30mm in the bank.

If that were all, ANST would be a little pricey at 17.50, however they just happen to be sitting on what may prove to be a major disruptive broadband technology worth multi billions (it new subsidiary - Altra Braodband) and one that applies to all spectrums.

They just proved the fiber part in the lab achieving 4x the capacity of other methods.

This translates to either bleeding edge technology or 1/4 the cost of other technologies to hit the sweetspot.

They will have products in testing next year and will be shipping by July 2002 with an IPO to follow.

When traders and GoGO players stumble across this it will go up $25 in a heart beat.

Fuel Cell stocks will look tame compared to when this story hits CNBC, Light Reading, Converge, Lightwave, the WSJ or some media forum with an audience.

Protege - Re: ANST

cap 209 million (seems very reasonable)
cash 2.21 (nice for a profitable company)
float 6.1 million (small enough where it could hurt a short)

Zero insider selling

Just reported earnings may 29

"Our core software business continues to grow from strength to strength,'' commented Nick Csendes, President and CEO of Ansoft. ``We are on track to achieve our goal of $100 million in revenue in three years.''

Ansoft anticipates that total revenue in the next fiscal year will increase at least 25%. Operating income for the next fiscal year is expected to increase over 50%, excluding its investment in Altra Broadband and acquired amortization."

July quarter expect +.06
for the year expect +.52

pe is about 34 (probabbly justified due to the high growth rate)

earned +.19 this quarter
(I dont really understand why next quarter estimate is +.06 only, no warning and business does not seem seasonal)

This might actually be a reasonable long.

In general I dont like shorting stocks making new highs.
They have no resistance at all and could go anywhere.
