Eric L: Re: Your <<When Sprint PCS introduces 1xRTT combined with 1xEV-DO in 2003, then a lot more people will think if it as 3G. Of course they may wait till 2004 or so if they decide to skip 1xRTT/1xEV-DO, and go straight to 1xEV-DV, and there is probably a 50/50 possibility that they will do this.>>

Since, to you, 1x which will be here before the end of this year on Sprint and Verizon, will somehow or other not be 3G, that reinforces my suggestion that Qualcomm designate CDMA 2000 as "3Q" or perhaps "3GQ".

To a simple guy like me, if 1x walks like a 3G duck and quacks like a 3G duck, it is a 3G duck.

No wonder the media is confused. Perhaps if this is your view as well informed as you are, then Sprint better think of something other than 3G as a label for 1x.

But perhaps the plain ole data performance and interet (intranet) connections of 1x on Sprint PCS and Verizon Wireless (and Nextel) will be so superior to what is without doubt 2.5G (GPRS) on AT&T and the others who are pushing the GPRS string, that labels won't matter a bit.

And then let's see how the competition does against High Data Rate (1xEV-DO), from phones through handhelds, laptops, to desktops !

Best.

Eric L: Addendum. Thanks for the Valente interview article.

Very informative. No wonder he has your respect.

Strongly recommend you post on one of the Q threads, since I don't remember its being posted there.

Best.

Cha2

PS Do I recall that Sprint PCS has not signed on to BREW - although Verizon has?

Curious. Any idea what Valente thinks of it or is his plate full right now and he needs no further complication?
