This approach could work, if the peace-broker(s)...could get to grips with the concept that it would take at least 1 generation to overcome current obstacles between the adversaries. in the policy world, "long term" means about 1-2 years. For longer periods than that, you're talking not about affecting events but rather kicking the can down the road to the people who will follow you, and hopefully not bequeathing them too lousy a situation. So you get to the real long run, in other words, through a constant sucession of unpleasant short runs. ctb/A@suchislife.com
