Bush promised to use his clout to help energy matters.
Since then we have had nothing but record gouging by energy producers with no federal intervention or pressure. Of course not. They gave 55 million to Bush. And who pays? We do. And we will keep paying so long as Mr Cheney (er Bush) is in charge. And if that weren't enough almost no protection for the environment which is what we breathe, drink and eat. Campaign finance reform has also been torpedoed by the Bush folks formost.

Bush may still have popularity on his administration's honeymoon and GOP die-hards will always support him no matter what. Some of the very rich will be jubilant to get back their huge tax refunds (the richest 400 people get back as much as the poorest 42,000,000) but expect popularity to wane and McCain to become the Man in Washington and for the swing-voting segment to move away from Bush and the right-wing in 2002 and 2004. By the second half of his administration Bush may indeed become a lame duck unable to convince anyone he is is sincere. His principal problem is he really doesn't believe in anything, he is primarily handled, primarily by pollution lobby and the southern and western right-wing. I actually hope I am wrong because the country and the market need strong leadership in Washington. So far they haven't gotten it though Powell is trying to single-handedly handle foreign policy and the DeLay and Armey are trying to keep everything to the right. Probl;em is it isn't working.
