Hurricane Hydrocarbons Ltd. Final Repayment to Noteholders

CALGARY, Jun 08, 2001 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- Hurricane Hydrocarbons Ltd. (Nasdaq: HHLF) (TSE: HHL.A) ("Hurricane") announces it will on June 21, 2001 make the final interest and principal repayment on its Canadian and United States dollar denominated Senior unsecured notes, thus retiring these notes. Including US$1.0 million in interest and US$23.9 million in principal, the total amount paid to the noteholders will be US$24.9 million.
The obligation repayments under the terms of the notes provide for the notes being repaid by December 31, 2001 and also provide Hurricane the right to prepay the balance of the principal at any time without penalty. With the balance of the outstanding notes being classified as short-term debt, Hurricane has decided to use surplus cash to repay this debt.

Details of the payment to be made on June 21, 2001 split between principal repayment and interest will be forwarded by Hurricane's trustees to the registered noteholders of record after June 21, 2001. Where applicable, noteholders will be required to surrender their certificates for cancellation prior to the redemption date in order to receive the final payment.
