Um, maybe your should check with your mis guy, but there are 3 types of blackberry configurations (at least back in august when I was working with them). One involves just regular old email address from the carrier, the second uses a server and integrates with exchange, and the third utilizes your PC which you must leave on. Maybe you should get your MIS guy to answer some of these posts. I would be surprised if you even use Exchange. Seems you would have at least know something about the blackberry configuration. You should know better than to try to bluff your way on this board.

VPN technology is a virtual joke...who the heck wants to leave their land-based PC constantly on so that they can receive email remotely?

That is not the way a VPN works...that's the way the non-Enterprise version of the redirector work. A VPN has no such requirements. With a VPN, you just connect up from wherever you are via a secure tunnel, and it looks like you're sitting at your desk. As far as the network is concerned, you are.

You run an MIS department? Your profile says you're a CEO.

dude, I can use VPN where I work whether I am at work, at home on my pc, or with my laptop via wireless modem. If I have a connection to the internet, I have a VPN connection as well.
