Maybe, but AMD was producing the 133 MHz Am5x86 at 0.35-microns using three metal layers while SGS Thompson was using 0.6-microns (0.65?) to produce a 100 MHz 6x86PR133. My guess is that AMD could have easily hit 166 MHz with the 6x86 even before the increase in metal layers.
