"IT's very hard for me to comprehend how parents can send there own kids to death" The Japanese were effective committing suicide. I along with a huge number of other Americans volunteered to kill other brothers at arms for a government that conducts war by killing populations combatants included, rather then the politicians responsible< Reagan excepted in Libya > The insanity continues, but you can still tell the difference between a child with a rock and ar15 or ak47 etc. There will always be Mi Lie's where someone looses it, but to allow it to openly continue should bring the Jewish politicians to court for war crimes just as terrorist's bombing civilians should be brought to court for murder.
PS I was lucky and only got a few days of combat pay but what little I saw was more then enough.

ok1day (and all else stuck on this issue)

<very hard for me to comprehend how parents can send their own kids to certain death>

First, let me make very clear that I believe people are people; black or white, moslem or jew, men or women, etc,
etc......and that I believe war is a useless exercise to
satisfy greed and envy...
When people start realizing (probably never) that "the other guy" is not really that much different (hopes, dreams, aspirations), and that we are all brothers and sisters separated by our history, culture, ethnicity....that will be the first step towards World Peace. As long as we believe
"we" are right and "they" are wrong, and refuse to put ourselves in the shoes of the other...there is no basis for
moving beyond hatred and strife.

That being said, it is not at all hard to understand why moslems (including children) are honored to die for their cause.
It is a cultural belief that to die as a martyr is the greatest honor one can achieve in a lifetime.

I am not saying I agree with this philosophy, I'm just saying it is not hard to understand within the context of their beliefs, and within this framework and religion, it does not even seem barbaric.

Within the context of Western or Christian belief...where parents wish for their children to surpass the parents and live better lives than they themselves enjoyed...yeah, it is somehow unimaginable.

Personally, I believe it is a complete waste of life and misguided loyalty to die for one's country. In America, the Western Civilization's Crown Jewel of Democracy, look how our Government treats those who have risked and sacrificed their lives, war after useless war. Agent Orange? According to our government...complete harmless. Gulf War Syndrome? Doesn't exist. Oh yeah, we have one "Veterans Day", where we say thanks a bunch, Sucker! and then forget about it for the rest of the year.
Wars are about greed and hatred, pure and simple and if Governments really gave a damn for the welfare of their people, we would move beyond this wasteful relic of humanity's past. For Governments, people are an expendable resource to achieve their greedy needs and desires. Let's not forget how "profitable" bombs and wars really are. Follow the money...

I wish for a day when people the world over will realize that
their governments have hidden agendas (or not so hidden) and
that they represent their ruling parties greedy ambitions, not some benevolent oversight of their people.

The technological revolution and development of the World- Wide-Net offers some hope in my mind that the people of the world can look beyond their borders and past and realize we are all one, after all. Communication and understanding is where it begins...

Respectfully,
Eichler
