since our assertions are inherently conditional, and yet we obviously progress towards more accurate descriptions and analyses of the world around us

Now it seems you are paddling my canoe, so I may stop rowing.

Oh, still one point of disagreement as regards truth. When you say, "we obviously progress ... ," the truth of your statement then becomes dependent upon who you mean by "we." There are still people who believe in biblical astronomy as giving the true picture of the universe. People still believe the bible is inerrant. There is still a flat earth society. Some still believe that torture can be reconciled with everlasting love. Some still believe that the ethnicity of their social group determines their value to a supposed creator. And many believe that other ethnic groups are no different than animals "created" for their benefit(one of the "reasons" produced being that these other groups have no "souls"). And, of course, there are people who believe the exact opposite of these things. My point is simply that both those sets cannot be progressing "towards more accurate descriptions and analysis... ." A rational person cannot straddle paths which are being built in opposite directions.
