What's the difference between Solon's island and Afghanistan? "they're now contemplating putting foreigners (which there basically means aid workers for such heinous bodies as the Red Cross) under a new list of restrictions, and subjecting them to the religious police..." This just in by dog sled, from Santa's village.... Solon, High priest of Losertown, a cult compound, on the newly founded Island of Loser, (pronounced Luzare to make it sound more sophisticated than it is) has recently placed a foreigner, one Greg McRitchie, in a small boat and set him adrift in the icy waters of the No-Bearing strait, there, to drift aimlessly until he repents of his "CRIMES" This was done to protect the Islands children from the corrupting influences of "Absolutism". A particularly nasty form of Theism that proclaims the abominable doctrine that objective morality is rooted in a personal and moral GOD, and if that were not enough, it is further claimed that we are all responsible to, and will be judged by this supposed, supernatural being who is claimed to be the Holy and Just, Creator of the Universe The Afghans are worried about their children, and so is Solon. They have a majority, and we all know that majority equals morality. Proselytizing is banned in both cases although for slightly different reasons. You must agree to the Sollibans unspoken, but we all know them anyway, rules, or you are put in a boat. The Afghans deport people summarily too. Solon is a police force unto himself, no trial is necessary, only that you engender the wrath of Solon the Barbarian. Despite (or because of?) the overt anti-religious zealotry of the Solliban, He seems to be trying hard to make the place best fit the word 'god-forsaken'... JMHO. LOL
