Gersh state wise it is mostly what it happens now. I was told stories that they were selling Stone throw's - e.g. for XYZ money just trow a stone were it lands is yours. In many occasion they sold land they did not even own. My grandparents bought land in Ottoman Palestine but we were never able to identify it. There were many acres in Northern Israel ...... my dad rest in peace told me about how proud his father was and how much land he owned .......... but again who knows what they bought. As a side remark many Jews had land in what is now Eastern Europe and Russian which was confiscated by the authorities ......... so !? Haim
