They're probably more relevant than the ones you provided since those AARP statistics were not concerned solely with minimum wage earners. There's also little information on the impacts of the recent immigration influx on the poverty issue. It's one thing to try to alleviate the problems with one policy while aggravating it on the other. It may get worse now that the H1-B visa temporary workers are out of jobs and start to spend down their savings. There should be some requirement that they at least have health care insurance coverage in conjunction with their employment.

While you're at it - one of the things I wonder about is who actually is paid minimum wage, besides people who get tips. My dad in Baton Rouge pays the lady who cleans his house $13 an hour - not out of the goodness of his heart, I assure you. And no, she's not white, and she probably didn't finish high school, either.
