BOSTON and TOKYO, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Asia Global Crossing and OpenReach, a provider of virtual private network (VPN) services, today announced they have formed a strategic alliance to deliver a secure customer premises-based VPN capability over Asia Global Crossing's global, high-performance IP network. Under terms of the agreement, Asia Global Crossing will re-sell OpenReach managed services and technology as part of an overall secure data networking solution for multinational enterprise customers.

Initially available to Asia Global Crossing customers in Japan, the solution is based on OpenReach's unique premises-based VPN technology. Combined with Asia Global Crossing's Direct Internet Access service or with other global services, the joint service initiative will serve the needs of multinational enterprises that require truly global connectivity and secure, easy-to-provision VPN services, including: IPSec tunneling, public key infrastructure, firewall security, graphical management, monitoring and alerting, and reports. The Asia Global Crossing/OpenReach VPN solution will address the need for off-net secure connectivity to support e-business intranets and extranets, and will complement a sophisticated suite of network-based IP VPN solutions that will be offered worldwide by Asia Global Crossing and its parent Global Crossing later this year.

``Our multinational customers are demanding comprehensive solutions that enable them to communicate with their remote locations and users, as well as their customers, suppliers and partners. Our relationship with OpenReach will enable us to serve these customer needs with a scaleable, easy-to-manage solution that can be deployed at the speed of e-business,'' said John Legere, president and chief executive officer of Asia Global Crossing.

``The OpenReach solution combines world-class security and high-performance premises capabilities with software speed and flexibility to deliver unparalleled price-performance. With this VPN solution 'powered by OpenReach,' multinational enterprises can securely unite disperse locations, allowing them to share information globally,'' Legere said.
