RE:"Wow, and these are pre-production boards. I'm extremely impressed over Nvidia's work here."

Hummm...looks like my next mobo will be integrated...
and a whole lot of OEMs too...
This thing is very very impressive at first glance.
I think even smart Engel is impressed...

Andreas,

I hope this lays your fears to rest wrt NVIDIA's ability to produce a solid chipset on the first try. Good new indeed. Thanks for the post.

<font color=green>Platform Stability

As demonstrated by Intel’s costly and high profile motherboard recall almost exactly a year ago, chipset development is not an easy task. As with any newcomer, NVIDIA’s unproven track record raises questions about stability and reliability.

We had the opportunity to thoroughly exercise multiple nForce 420 reference platforms. Using pre-production silicon we logged several hundred hours of continuous testing. nForce delivered rock solid stability under all of our evaluations, benchmarks and torture tests. The only irregularity we encountered was related to the integrated graphics core, but this problem was immediately resolved by flashing our outdated BIOS.

Using a variety of DDR configurations, we confirmed interoperability with PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMMs from Hynix, Samsung, Micron, Mushkin, and Nanya. Interoperability testing with a variety of hard drives and network cards has also been smooth without exception.

All testing was done under WindowsME. We expect to see OS support at launch to be targeted primarily towards WindowsME and WindowsXP. Support for other operating systems is likely to follow.
